2011 Wildfires

The 2011 wildfire season was one of the worst on record with extreme drought conditions, record breaking high temperatures, and high winds presenting the perfect combination for disaster.

A total of 3.9 million acres and approximately 5,900 structures were damaged or destroyed across Texas with Bastrop County sustaining the most damage with 34,457 acres burned and over 3,000 structures damaged or destroyed. In response to the 2011 wildfires, Texas received separate funding allocations totaling $36 million. Through programs and policies implemented by the GLO, the funds have served 55,653 impacted individuals with 28,521 of those individuals qualifying as low-to-moderate income.
